Hoebridge Charity Day 2020

Tuesday 29th September2020

A royal visitation, Elvis if not in the building at least on the tee and more than our fair share of jokers it was of course the Hoebridge 2020 Charity Day.

Twenty seven teams of varying sartorial exuberance (and ability) lined up to take part in this year’s event looking to win the charity cup. The theme of the day was “Play Your Cards Right” and the golfing gods dealt us a great hand with wonderful weather for the time of year.

Adding to the carnival atmosphere players and public alike were invited to chance their arm at the tombola stand and try to win a prize. The raffle for the four ball at North Downs was won by ticket number 190.

On the 12th hole the players were invited to challenge our pro, Enrico, to a nearest the pin shoot out. Over the day Enrico was only beaten on six occasions so congratulations to those who did.

The winning team, at the end of a fun filled day, was the “Three Queens and a Joker” containing Laura Nicholson, Caroline Cullen, Di Heavey and Steph Williams with a score of 129. We’ll let you decide which one was the joker.
In second place, with a score of 123 were “Well Suited” with Peter Smith, Sue Reed, Angela & Alick Strevens. And Dale Garrad’s team came third with 119 points, on count back, joining Dale were Alex Gregory and Tom & Ian Fraser.

The best dressed team were the “Irish Aces” with an honourable mention for “Las Vegas” who were left crying in the chapel.

Nearest the pins were won by Ian Fraser, Hilary English, Robert Munford, Angela Strevens, Alex Gregory and Sally Hodgetts. While Tom Fraser and Pam Burch picked up the prizes for nearest the pins in two.

A big thank you to everyone who helped out on the day particularly the ladies manning the Half-way hut and the Tombola. And a special thank you to Mina Crowe for all her tireless work organising the day

Finally thanks to everyone who took part, giving so generously of your time and money to support our Captains Charities, LinkAble and Woking Age Concern. This year has been particularly difficult for the charity sector and we can’t begin so tell you how grateful they have been for all your support

Tom & Jess
